Granddaughter of founder Nicholas W. Genematas, Mariann graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College in Albion, Michigan. She worked in marketing at an ad agency in Royal Oak, Michigan, and also spent several years at the company her grandfather built, Marathon Linen Service, in quality control, marketing, and accounting services.
